Unlike Day 2, Day 3 was full of events.

First stop:  Cheyenne, Wyoming!

A visit with Jerusha, a friend from my college years!  She plays the french horn and she is a music teacher.

We decided to catch up in a park, while Louie and Zula romped around on their leashes.  Who spies 2 kitties?

Cotton leaves were floating down from the trees.  Zula liked trying to catch them...and eat them!

After a nice visit with Jerusha, we continued driving through Wyoming.  We drove by a dramatic storm.  The sky looked ominous but it never actually rained.
(Ominous means that something bad or unpleasant might soon happen!)

Then Zula noticed something exciting!
"Hey guys!  LOOK!  We made it to Utah!"  -Zula

"ZZZZZzzzzzzzz..."  -Louis and Jose (note Jose's personal fan)

We ended up in Salt Lake City, Utah that night.  Stay tuned for a tour of this city tomorrow morning in the next blog...

Day 2 was pretty uneventful...

Flat countryside through the states of Illinois... (*Fun Fact:  Illinois is also know as the "Land of Lincoln"-  President Lincoln lived here for a while before becoming the President)
and Iowa (*Fun Fact:  Iowa's main crop is corn.  Read more about corn on this fun site-  http://www.campsilos.org/mod3/students/index.shtml ).

While I drove...

 The cats napped.  Purrrrrr...

Louie even offered to help with the driving.
"Hey, Katy, I think you missed a turn!" - Louie

Towards the end of the day, as the sun set, we decided to stop and take a stretch.
"MMMM, are those fields of catnip I smell?"  -Zula
"No, that's corn."  -Jose

When we stopped at a hotel that night, we were somewhere in Nebraska.
Jose was happy to get away from everyone.  As you can see, he is not afraid of heights.

At the end of day 1 of driving, we saw a double rainbow.  We were in Elkhart, Indiana.

The rainbow made us smile!

We stopped at a hotel for the night...
"Finally we aren't moving.  I was getting car sick!" -Zula
"I love hotels!" -Jose
"Does anyone know how to open this safe?" -Louie

This is the van we drove (view from the outside).

(View from the inside).
"Can you turn the AC on back here?!" -Louie

First Stop:  Oberlin, Ohio.
Oberlin College, where Derek went to college.

A local eatery.  I love tater tots!

A study chair in the library.  I want one of these for my classroom!

A stop in the dance building.  Time to practice my arabesque!

The Conservatory of Music-  one of my heroes, Louis Armstrong!

Hi Friends!

As most of you know, Derek and I recently made an epic journey out west to try a new city-  SACRAMENTO, California.  The challenge:  getting ourselves... our stuff...and (most importantly) our three cats out to the Golden State...

Can you say:  ROAD TRIP?!

That's right-  nearly 3,000 miles across the country.  And we have all lived to tell about it.  (For some of us- purrrr about it...)

That's what we hope to do in our blog!

We wanted to share with you our trials and tribulations along this fun and adventurous journey...from start to finish...from east to west...from NYC to Sac-Town...

Hit it!

This was our route.  One road the whole way.  Route 80.  Direction:  WEST!
